Huemann Family 1995

Huemann Family 2012

T. Huemann Well and Pump, Inc. was started in 1994 with 1 rig, 1 water truck, 1 pickup, 1 piece of digging equipment and a skeleton crew of 5 employees. Todd remembers, “I actually did a lot of drilling and digging in those days just to keep up with the demand.”

Before becoming a business owner, Todd graduated from Creighton University with a Biology Degree and attended 4 years of active military duty. He says he’s very lucky to have those experiences… “They have helped me form the work ethic, integrity, leadership and organizational skills necessary to lead and own this company.” Of course, all of this would be naught if not for his skill in the trade of well drilling! For this, he must turn to his experience gained through his family’s well drilling business which dates back to 1902 and still operates in Illinois. When asked about what makes him successful, he simply states, “I’ve been truly blessed with good equipment, loyal hardworking employees, an abundance of steady work and a supportive family.”

Almost 16 years later, Todd’s hard work and experience continue to guide the company into an ever-changing future. His equipment, employees, and coverage area have expanded exponentially. The company has diversified several times. “It’s important to keep up with the changes that the construction industry demands”, states Todd. Todd has watched the drilling side of the company grow to include drilling new “green technology” geothermal loop fields. The service side of the business is also seeing new technological advances. The company has added directional drilling and the installation of constant pressure systems to its resume. Will all of the growing demands, Todd has also brought on two managers. Christopher Elmer manages the service side of the business and Andy Petges manages the drilling side. “With so much growth, I needed a couple of guys who could focus their expertise and help manage”, admits Todd. Todd always attributes his growth to an amazing group of dedicated, loyal, and hard working employees. “I’m so grateful to have a group of employees that operate more like a team and a family.”

Mission Work

Yes, it is hard to believe a thriving business owner gets any free time. But, it’s even harder to believe that Todd’s free time takes him to far away lands to mission work! It’s True… he loves to use his time and talents and financial resources to help underprivileged countries get valuable, clean drinking water. His endeavors began in 1995 when he joined up with the Christian organization WATER FOR LIFE. This organization has a mission of providing drinking water to communities in Haiti. This experience was quite moving but in the following years, God has not prompted him to take on another project… until this year. In June of 1999, Todd found himself in cities of Honduras that Hurricane Mitch has almost completely devastated. By joining forces with a local builder, Henry Osburne, and the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Todd was able to not only meet and enjoy the people of Honduras but help coordinate the drilling of 3 new wells in the town of Sulaco Yoro (1 for an orphanage and 2 for the city). Apparently, that was not enough because Todd found himself returning to Honduras only 6 weeks later with six bags of well drilling equipment and his wife, Erin, and mother Judy, in tow. This trip allowed them to install a hand pump for times of water and power outages brought on by future storms. they were also able to help coordinate the drilling of another water well for a community known as Guacamaya (also coined “The Buried City” after Mitch left them buried under many feet of mud. Judy was able to put her nursing skills to work in the local clinic, and Erin enjoyed using her minimal Spanish language skills to communicate with the local people. Everyone had a great time getting to know the wonderful people and children of this country. It is a trip that will long be remembered not because of how much we gave but how much the people of Honduras gave to us.
